eBay to broker sales of radio ads
eBay will soon venture into the radio-advertising business by serving as a broker for ad-spot sales. The service will be offered through the eBay Media Marketplace and will be powered by Bid4Spots. Advertising agencies will be able to register for the service on the eBay Media Marketplace website, which will provide "prime" inventory from more than 2,300 radio stations. eBay will use the Internet to improve the service and track and analyze radio-marketing campaigns. The company will also broker sales of cable TV advertisements for leading national advertisers.

The Chicago Advertising Federation will honor William Lamar, Jr., senior vice president and chief marketing officer of McDonald's USA, with the 2007 American Advertising Federation (AAF) Silver Medal Lifetime Achievement Award. Lamar has been the instrumental force behind the ongoing execution of the McDonald's "i'm lovin' it" campaign. Under the leadership of Lamar, the company was honored in 2004 as "Marketer of the Year" by Advertising Age magazine. Lamar is also a well-known industry panelist and speaker. The AAF Silver Medal, created in 1959, recognizes people who make outstanding contributions to advertising.

Former senior media manager for Euro RSCG DRTV Scott Kowalchek has started a new advertising agency called DirectAvenue. The agency will be based in Southern California and will be dedicated to brand and direct-response advertising. The agency's workforce comprises an experienced team including Toshio Inaba, a direct-response expert, and other big names, such as Shannon Marcus, a veteran media buyer from Davis Elen. DirectAvenue is headquartered in Temecula, CA. A full-service media agency, it will provide service to clients nationwide.

Former creative directors from Hill Holliday have joined hands with the former director of account services for Toth Brand Imaging to open the Boston office of Kelliher Samets Volk. The team is collaborating with two clients, Arbella Insurance Group, a Quincy, MA-based provider of insurance products and services, and First Night Boston. Kelliher Samets Volk is a marketing organization that focuses on brand building. Established in 1977, the company has more than 70 professionals working from its offices in New York City, Burlington, and Boston.
