SEE THE END OF THE ROAD
Kantishna, Alaska, lies within one of the America's most popular tourist destinations, Denali National Park. Also known as The End of the Road, this small town at the end of the 95-mile Denali road is only accessible by bus from the park entrance or by small aircraft to Kantishna Airstrip.
The new Kantishna Experience is a 12-hour bus journey featuring interpretive narration provided jointly by a driver guide and a National Park Service ranger that joins the trip at Wonder Lake. The round trip into the heart of the park also includes lunch and a stop at the historic cabin of Fannie Quigley, an infamous Kantishna resident who settled in the area during its Gold Rush heyday in the early 1900s and remained there until her death in 1944.
Buses will pick up passengers at any of the four Aramark-managed lodges, McKinley Chalet Resort, McKinley Village Lodge, Grande Denali Lodge and the Denali Bluffs Hotel, as well as the Wilderness Access Center in the park and the Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge. The buses will be the same style as the Visitor Transportation System shuttle buses traveling to Wonder Lake and Kantishna.
FYI: The trip, which runs through Aug. 31, costs $129 plus the park entrance fee. Information for all Denali National Park and Preserve bus options and reservations is available at www.reservedenali.com. Trip planning and other park information is available at www.nps.gov/dena or by calling 907-683-2294.
