A Production coordinator is an extremely vital and essential part of any company as they are responsible for making sure that the material coming in, the production and the dispatch are all on time. The print production coordinator is responsible for leading all of the aspects of the assigned print projects up to and including documenting the project scope and plan, managing changes to the plan, communicating with team, and coordinating the successful compilation of all elements required for assigned print projects from initiation through delivery. Working directly with the series director and series producer, the main function of the production coordinator is to organize and streamline the production in an efficient and time effective manner. The life of a production coordinator is not always easy or steady. They must meet deadlines and are often rushed to get through the production weather it is print or video.
To obtain a position as a production coordinator it is important to receive an education in the field, whether it is from a technical school or a four year college usually doesn’t matter. Courses in strategic planning, business management, finance, and basic business accounting are useful and may at times be a great asset or requirement. Students will use the latest in technology and communications programs to develop skills needed to design, implement, manage, and develop effective strategies for production of advertising. Students graduating from a bachelor program can find work as entry-level managers, and slowly work their way up to coordinators. Most production coordinators have a background in film, theatre or acting as well as have completed an internship to learn the details of the career. Through experience and an excellent track record, and also while keeping a positive attitude and pushing through obstacles with perseverance, you will eventually earn the title of production coordinator.
