Once you finally land the interview with an advertising agency, Make sure to follow a few simple ''rules'' in order to catch the interviewers' attention. Your main objective is to capture their attention and make them what to hire you.
First off make yourself unforgettable. Proper dress is important, for men a nice business suit is appropriate, and for women a dress or pant suit. Carry a small notebook with nice pen, this makes you appear ready to work, organized and eager to get started. Do not doodle during the interview, or bring a notebook with doodle marks all over it. This will make you appear to be a day dreamer without ambition. When you first enter offer a firm handshake, this goes for women also, a firm handshake shows you are confident. Conveying confidence is important in making yourself unforgettable, a confident candidate shows the potential employer their ability to work independently and stay on task without allot of guidance. Be sure not to be over confident this can make you appear to be arrogant, and no one wants to hire an arrogant candidate. Know your potential employer; you want to know the company you may someday be working for. Before you go through all the work of an interview, make sure this is the place you want to be. During the interview knowing the company shows you have a desire to work for them, with the intuitive to learn and know more. When speaking of the company add in the positive assets you could bring with you and contribute to the advertising agency. Be prepared to demonstrate how your past experience can be applied to the company. Remember companies are looking for team players especially in the advertising industry, if you appear to have a personal agenda, they will look on for other candidates willing to work within a team setting.
On terms of a Salary, let the employer mention the compensation first, if you are pressured into stating a salary needed, give a range starting with what you require and up. Many times you can tell the employer to ''make you an offer''; this way you have a better idea of what they are expecting and more negotiating power for the future.
When exiting the interview thank them for their time, leave a resume, offer a firm handshake once again. Wait a few days to a week and make a follow up call stating once again your interest in the position and your appreciation for their time. Make yourself available if you have an answering service have the call forwarded. Always give a cell phone number with, a professional voice message incase they get your voicemail.
