In the advertising industry there are several different departments, here are a few to get acquainted with, each has a brief description of the job they are responsible for within the company or agency.
Account Services Department: The account services department is responsible for seeing that the client's needs are met accurately and on time, in order for the advertising to be on schedule it is important for the account services department to follow it in-house progress. The account services department is the link between the agency and the community; they are the most recognized in the public.
Media Department: The advertising media department is responsible for putting the advertising where the client will get the most exposure for their advertising budget. This means an ad is placed where the most potential customers will or target audience will see the ad and will cost the client the least amount of money.
Research department: The advertising research department is vital to the advertising agency. The advertising produced by the agency needs to be convincing, unforgettable and strike an emotional chord with the consumer, in order for it to do this there is allot of research that must be done. To determine what will grab the target market it is the responsibility of the advertising research department to find out the likes, dislikes, desires and lifestyles of the target audience.
Creative Department: The Creative departments in advertising are the people who create the actual ads. The creative department forms the heart of an advertising agency. There are three main roles in the creative department: art director, creative director and copywriter. Creative departments may employ production artists or junior copywriter and junior art directors as entry-level positions. The copywriters’ position within the department is they are responsible for the copy of the ad, the text only.
