Is an advertising career for you? There are many things to consider when you are looking at a career for the first time or looking to change within a career. Advertising is no different than any other career it has its ups and downs. Here are some things to consider when looking at an advertising career.

Deadlines

The advertising industry is deadline orientated; you must always be on schedule and have work completed before deadline. If you have a hard time managing time this is not the place for you, although some procrastinators do well in this industry. If you cannot handle the pressure and meet the deadlines you don’t have a job. At times working within the industry can be a pressure cooker of sorts, as deadlines loom within every department, tension begins to rise and some lose their cool. If you are not able to handle the pressure this is not the industry for you.

Team

Working within the advertising industry you must be a team player, if you aren’t, do not apply! Every department relies on each other to get the project complete for the client, on time and on budget, this whole process takes time and teamwork on everyone’s part. If you drop the ball and don’t work within the team environment it will show. In order for the amount of work that needs to be accomplished in a short given amount of time there must be team work.

Service

Many people don’t like to serve others, unfortunately if you don’t like to serve; this is not the career for you. In the advertising industry whether you like it or not you are a servant to the client. Your client pays for his advertising and you serve the client by providing the client with an acceptable advertising campaign. If the client did purchase advertising you would not be working.

Long Hours

Sometimes in the advertising industry isn’t always an 8 to 5 position with meetings and deadlines to be met, you will work late.

The advertising industry is full of perks including good pay. It is not for everyone take your time asses the ups and downs and make the decision for yourself.
