In an advertising career you must understand the different advertising mediums. With many different mediums out there here is a brief description of a few key mediums.

Online

Online advertising is one of the fastest growing advertising mediums. Advertising on the World Wide Web can reach a worldwide audience. It is very popular for online classified ads, and also consumable products available on a worldwide level.



Mail

Direct mail advertising is when you mail advertisements in the form of postcards, newsletter, and flyers directly to the consumer. This medium works well if you have access to a responsive mailing list of your own customers. Direct mail can be a highly effective medium for a developing local service trade. Direct mail allows you to target an audience comprised of those consumers most likely to respond favorably to your products or services. Direct mail is a good first choice if you are trying to sell a product directly to consumers that are not available through retail outlets.

Radio

Radio advertising offers a dramatic approach to advertising. Radio offers a form of entertainment that attracts and entertains listeners while they are working, traveling, relaxing or doing almost anything. Radio advertising can invoke an immediate response, typically when the advertising is herd the consumers are mobile as in a vehicle.

Newspaper

Newspaper advertising is generally the cheapest way to reach a mass audience. Newspapers are the best bet if you are trying to inform a mass audience about a short-term sale or special price offer for a product or service. Newspaper readers are used to looking through the paper for specials. Newspapers can offer a highly effective format for advertising locally available services.

Television

Television offers the advertiser an opportunity to speak to a captive audience. Television is a terrific medium for image advertising. Television advertising reaches very large audience. In a television broadcast, the maximum amount of time per exposure is usually two minutes.

Outdoor

Outdoor advertising consist of billboards, benches, posters, signs and transit advertising. In outdoor advertising consumers are subject to it whether they like it or not.
