Prior to having your yard sale, make sure you check out the Wanted to buy web site, there may be a collector looking for exactly what you are selling!

Advertise it in the local newspaper, especially if where you live doesn't get a lot of traffic. If you are unsure of what to say in your ad, read some other ads and copy bits and pieces from them.

Advertise your yard sale on the web for free! There are two great places that have free yard sale ads. One is at Garage Sale Near U and the other is at Free Garage Sale, putting your ad on BOTH places!! Although both places offer free garage sale ads, the second place also has free classifieds for everything else you can imagine.

You can also put up advertisements on bulletin boards in your community (grocery stores, community center, etc).

Set large posters at busy intersections by where you live to advertise your yard sale. This is something you will want to set up a day in advance. Many people find out about yard sales by driving by them and stopping to shop. This step is very important if you do not live on a busy street. You can place these posters at busy intersections telling about your yard sale and how to get to it.

Make your yard sale set up as big and colorful as you can to advertise the sale that you are having. You may want to put up some colorful balloons and posters at your actual yard sale to draw even more attention to your sale to help you to make extra money with your yard sale. Large yard sales that draw attention of people who pass by are more likely to bring in more shoppers and therefore more money.
