There are many myths regarding advertising careers that may make you nervous about pursing jobs in advertising.

Let's look at some of those now:
  • One myth is that people who work in advertising are immoral in some way and will do anything, including lie to the public, to sell their product. This is not true. While it is an advertiser's job to sell their clients product they also have a responsibility to keep ads honest.

  • Another myth is that people only go into advertising when their careers as visual artists don't work out. The truth is that you can be a visual artist and still be in advertising. Some of the best and most creative minds of our time end up in advertising and this is because it is an industry that has an outlet for creative, talented people.

  • Some people think that advertising jobs and public relations jobs are the same thing. These two fields are different. Advertisers are responsible for marketing products to the public, while public relations deal more with the images of products and individuals. They are similar fields with different specialties.

  • You might have heard that it is hard to find a job in advertising. There are actually many opportunities out there for people interested in advertising careers. While you probably won't land a job as a high level executive right away there are many entry-level positions in the advertising industry if you are willing to work your way up.

  • You might have the impression that  While there is a lot of money to be made in advertising you will probably start out with a fairly average salary.
So do you think that an advertising job is for you? It is a growing industry always looking for talented, innovative thinkers. Good luck with your search for advertising careers.
