The internet has drastically changed the business landscape, particularly marketing. Using the internet expanded the marketing reach of corporations and small businesses. These businesses need people to handle their internet marketing. What does it take to get a chance at internet marketing jobs or internet communications work?

What is Internet Marketing?

Internet marketing has many other names in the internet language. This is also referred to as i- marketing, online marketing, and web marketing. You have also heard of SEM or Search Engine Marketing or e-marketing.

There is not much difference between conventional marketing and internet marketing. Where traditional marketing rely on traditional marketing strategies internet marketing demands advanced computer skills. Internet marketing jobs cover a range of responsibilities - advertising, selling, and keeping customers interested. It includes site management and prompt customer service.

Using the internet, marketers make good use of strategies that would enhance their marketing efforts to reach more audiences worldwide and to get these audiences buying their products online, in real time, and conveniently.

Strategies include selling products or services directly to consumers, devising and planning marketing promotions, establishing affiliates, and establishing and maintaining customer relations, ALL online. Because the internet has a global reach, competition is tough.

Educational/Training Requirements

Online marketing jobs are tailor-fitted for graduates and master degree holders of business administration. Other courses that can launch a career in internet marketing are business law, economics, management, finance, accounting, statistics and mathematics. Whichever of these degrees you have completed you can cross over to internet marketing. Completing an internship while in college also boosts one's chances in getting one of those online selling jobs.

Internet communication jobs are for individuals with the expertise to handle social networking, online phone calls, write emails, and blog or vlog. The ideal candidate must have internet savvy and great interpersonal communication skills as well as a head for numbers, and management skills.

If you have writing skills you can get any of these communications jobs. However, individuals with certifications in internet training and English language proficiency plus a college diploma in business administration or related courses are hired by companies. Related jobs are computer software engineers, computer support specialists, computer systems analysts, and engineers.

However some of the jobs accept high school graduates with on-the-job training and an aptitude for customer service requirements. The job includes voice and video communication services. Thanks to the increasing demand for internet communication services; however, candidates for these jobs must be on top of online telecommunication trends because changes occur rapidly.

Talk to advertising people to get more ideas for job requirements. You will greatly benefit from their inputs. Browse online sites with posting for the job and take note of the requirements for the different media marketing or internet market positions. If you can, get jobs as marketing assistant or similar openings just to get work experience. A college graduate with a short stint as a marketing assistant online increases his opportunities to get employed.

Offer to help someone establish an online store and manage his website. You get more leverage with this stint. Although you haven't been employed this experience gives you the real life training you need outside of textbooks. Employers are attracted to a busy resume highlighting relevant job experiences.

You can benefit too from the experience because you learn the basics and get the feel of internet marketing. Once you have acquired the experience and established networks, you can also set up your own advertising agency in the future.

Compensation

Online media marketing jobs or internet communications work offer successful job candidates better compensation and the opportunity for frequent travel. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics report, online sales marketing managers get as much as $346,000 annually; marketing managers, $175,000; public relations managers, $56,700 while promotions managers get $44,000.

The pay does not yet include the perks that go with the job - meeting important people in different industries, paid-for travel to exciting places, and bonuses. Regular benefits are provided for those employed in private and government firms.

If you are already in marketing, adding advanced internet skills to your repertoire increases your chances to branch to online marketing. But expect to work more hours in a week - after all, it pays well. You can opt to work at home, which makes the job attractive for young couples with children or for retirees who prefer to get back into a working environment.
