About The New Jersey Senate Democratic Office
The New Jersey Senate Democratic Office is dedicated to serving the residents of New Jersey and supporting the legislative activities of the 24 members of the Senate Democratic Caucus. The Office is currently seeking a Digital Director. Our office is located in the State House in the Capitol City of Trenton.
General Description
The Digital Director reports to the Communications Director and is responsible for ensuring that the messages of the Senate Majority Office (SMO) are effectively delivered to New Jersey residents across digital platforms. This position is responsible for creating content and managing digital communications for the SMO. The Director must be detail-oriented, work well independently as well as with team members from diverse backgrounds, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Essential Functions
Create, implement and manage comprehensive digital communications including: Crafting key messages representing the vision and goals of the Senate President and the Caucus.
Planning around priorities for the short- and long-term.
Ensuring information is accessible to all residents, as well as identifying key target audiences for various initiatives and priorities.
Coordinating messaging in support of SMO’s communications strategy.
Oversee all digital messaging generated by the office, including social media and video content, at the direction of the Communications Director.
Engage Senators and their district offices in digital messaging and dissemination in various platforms.
Contribute to senior-level discussions regarding messaging priorities, major policy decisions and significant public-interest issues.
Develop and implement communications strategy and digital plans.
Oversee work of videographer.
Integrate digital messaging with other communications functions.
Repurpose media content from news sites into digital communications.
Collaborate closely with Communications Director and others on SMO communications staff.
Qualifications
3-5 years’ experience in digital communications, media, marketing, public relations, constituent services, and/or campaign communications.
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, public relations, graphic design, journalism, or a related field.
Experience managing digital media and traditional communications campaigns.
Competencies, Knowledge and Skills
Strong written, oral, and visual communication skills.
Ability to effectively and succinctly communicate complex concepts .
Familiarity with, understanding of, and passion for, New Jersey government and a desire to serve the residents of New Jersey.
Superior organizational skills, including the ability to juggle simultaneous priorities and meet established deadlines.
Ability to think creatively, exercise sound judgement and work independently.
Ability to anticipate – and plan for – public reaction.
Demonstrated expertise in the following platforms: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok.
Working knowledge of website management systems like WordPress, and competence in writing web content.
Familiarity with graphic design, particularly social media, web, and email graphics.
Ability to produce and edit short videos.
Ability to work well within a diverse team and manage lateral reporting relationships.
Willingness to work extended hours as-needed, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Compensation will be based on experience and include participation in the State Health Benefits System and the public Employees Retirement System.
